Sports Acupuncture Therapy
Sports Acupuncture Therapy
Sports acupuncture therapy is a recognized treatment method for a variety of musculoskeletal conditions, mobility and pain-related issues.
This therapeutic technique, which originated from traditional Chinese acupuncture, focuses on inserting thin needles into specific trigger points or muscle knots to relieve pain and enhance muscle function.
Chiropractor Dalton Tolliver is specially trained in sports acupuncture and can provide it as a standalone service or as part of a holistic treatment plan. If you are experiencing discomfort and limited mobility, it is important to address it immediately. Contact Seven Bridges Chiro today!
Sports acupuncture focuses on myofascial trigger points, which are tight muscle fibers causing pain and limited movement. This treatment uses needles to stimulate nerves, triggering a series of neurological responses that can help alleviate pain.
The needles also enhance blood flow and oxygen supply to the muscles, promoting muscle relaxation and supporting the body’s healing process.
Sports acupuncture helps with muscle pain and tightness, a sports injury, joint pain or a chronic pain condition. It is often a part of a holistic treatment plan for the following conditions:
- Muscle Pain and Trigger Points
- Chronic pain conditions
- Sports injuries
- Joint pain
- Headaches & migraines
- Neck & shoulder pain
What to Expect During a Sports acupuncture Session
If you have not yet experienced sports acupuncture treatments, here is an outline of the process to help you feel more comfortable:
Assessment & Evaluation
Before starting treatment, Dr. Dalton will review your medical history and current condition. She may ask about your symptoms, pain levels and other relevant medical information to determine if sports acupuncture is right for you. After that a physical examination may be necessary to find your trigger points and muscle tension
Informed consent
The sports acupuncture treatment process will be fully explained upfront and you will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss any concerns
Needle insertion
Depending on the area being treated, you will be asked to either lie face down or face up on the treatment table. After sterilizing your skin, a thin, sterilized needle will gently be inserted into the areas of pain, tight muscle or trigger point. Once the needles are in place, they are manipulated by gently twirling or moving them
Duration of session
Sports acupuncture usually lasts around 15-30 minutes depending on the treatment and the individual’s response.
Communication
The entire time the process is taking place, Dr. Dalton will communicate with you to ensure you are comfortable and are not feeling discomfort. You are encouraged to communicate any discomfort or concerns at any time
